Go to http://twitter.com and open your free account. It’s simple and you can do it in no time flat. Once you have finished that, you are now ready to sign into your new account.

The next step is to look for the profile button at the top of the page and fill out your Twitter profile information. If you have a website or blog you can link to it here. Your profile information is available for anyone to see, so make it interesting.

Again, go to the top of the page and you will see a “find people” button, click there. By typing in a keyword you can start to find people with similar interests to follow. When someone follows you, follow them back. This is a good way to grow your base and have a community of people with similar interests.

Post useful links with good content. These can be articles you have written in the past or posts from your blog. It could be someone else’s content you found on the internet. Just make sure if you use someone else’s content that you give them credit for it.

Try to post everyday, this is important to get your name out there so people start to notice you. This will also make it easier to gain more followers and more people for you to follow back. Ask questions and make comments, try to get people to respond back. Don’t send the same message twice, change it around and make it look like a new message; otherwise, you are spamming and will begin to lose followers and possibly have you Twitter account closed.

You will meet a lot people on Twitter and it can be a lot of fun. It is also possible to get a lot of new targeted traffic coming to your website from Twitter. So get started!
